Located about fourteen kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh, the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek is one of the many sites in Cambodia whereby a large number of people were killed and buried by the Khmer Rouge communist regime. Prisoners from the Security Prison 21 (S21) were taken to Choeung Ek to be executed and remains of victims were exhumed from mass graves in 1980. To preserve ammunition, prisoners were either killed with sharpened bamboo sticks or just bludgeoned to death. A memorial stupa was built here to keep almost eight thousand skulls which can be seen behind clear glass panels and all tourists will taken to this attraction for a guided tour.
