It is a testimony to the love of symmetry and balance, which evolved its style. In pure simplicity of rectangles, its beauty is achieved. It is a pyramid mounting in terraces, five of them and this temple mountain was built during the reign of Yasovarman and this Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva. Located northwest of Angkor Wat, Phnom Bakheng is the best place to watch the sunset over the temples of Angkor.

Below Phnom Bakheng lies all the world of mystery, the world of the Khmer, more mysterious than ever under its cover of impenetrable verdure and this hilltop location is the best place to for photograph enthusiasts to capture the magnificent sunset view of Angkor Wat. The scenery from this hill is breathtaking and Baksei Chamkrong is located on its northern end.
