Bakong Temple of the Roluos Group

Bakong Temple was built by King Indravarman I at the end of the 9th century and it was dedicated to Hinduism. Bakong is a representation of Mount Meru and it is made up of a five-tier central pyramid of sandstone with eight towers of brick and sandstone of its side. These monuments of the Roluos Group (used to be called Hariharalaya) which include Bakong and Preah Ko is the best example depicting the evolution of Khmer architectural. This is one of the more popular temples with tourists.
