Photo: Baphuon inside the city of Angkor Thom
Located about two
hundred meter northwest of the Bayon and inside
Angkor Thom, Baphuon was
built by King Udayadityavarman II in 1060 AD.
This temple mountain, part of the royal palace
group, was dedicated to Hinduism
and its architecture depicts the design of the Baphuon style. One of its attraction here is a
reclining Buddha measuring about forty meters
and it is a pyramidal representation of Mount Meru, a sacred
mountain in Hinduism.
