Kbal Spean, known as the River of a Thousand Lingas, has the most magnificent intricate riverbed carvings around the Strung Kbal Spean River. Located on the southwest slopes of Kulen Hills, it was established by the King Suryavarman I in 1054 and it is located about fifteen kilometer away from Banteay Srei. This holy place must have been favored during the great Angkorian epoch when its waters, after having washed gods and lingas, continue on to the astonishing royal city with its growing monumental temples.
