Photo: The Summer Palace in Beijing, China
Built in the Qing
Dynasty, the Summer Palace was an imperial
garden comprising of palace temples, gardens,
pavilions, lake and corridors. It is China's
largest and best preserved imperial garden.
Rebuilt in 1888 by the Empress Dowager Ci Xi, a
lot of money was spent rebuilding this
historical site. Located in Haidan District, this is the place
for the royalties to escape the summer heat in
the Palace Museum. It displays excellent gardening art and
gathers tens of thousands of precious cultural
relics.
More than three
quarters of the park is covered by the Kunming
Lake while the area near the eastern gate and
Longevity Hill consists more structural
interest.
The main attractions
here include the Tower of Buddhist Incense, the
Long Corridor, the Hall of Benevolence and
Longevity, the 17-Arch Bridge, the Garden of
Harmonious Interests, Suzhou Street and the
Marble Boat.
