WESTERN HAN TOMBS AT MAWANGDUI IN CHANGSHA

The Mawangdui Tombs in Changsha is a well known tourist area in Hunan. These Western Han Dynasty Tombs in Changsha are the family tombs of King Chu, Ma, Yin of the Five Dynasties (907-960) and hence the name Mawangdui. Three tombs of the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.- 24 A.D.) are also scattered around Mawangdui. This over two thousand years old Western Han tombs were fully excavated by 1974. Found preserved at the Hunan Provincial Museum are a large number of containers, silk writings and paintings and other burial objects as well as a well-preserved woman's corpse excavated from the tombs. Open to the public is the No. 3 tomb which has been renovated and consolidated.

 

Transport: Visitors may get on bus No. 10 or 14 to get there.
