Apart from being the
capital city of Hunan Province, Changsha is
regarded as one of the famous historical and
cultural cities in China. Located on the fertile
Hunan plains and on Xiang Jiang (Xiang River), this city
covers an area of 11,828 square kilometers and a population of
about 5.9 million and the easiest way to move
around this famous tourist area is to carry a

three thousand years since the Warring States
Period. Located on the fertile Hunan plains and
on Xiang Jiang, this place became a main

Changsha has a time-honored history,
varied and colored culture and with abundant
historical remains and was a major agricultural

(206 B.C. - 220 A.D.) have been excavated
together with
more than 20,000 well preserved cultural relics.
A large number of American and Europeans came to
this city in 1904 when the city opened up
foreign trade due to the 1903 Treaty of Shanghai
between China and Japan. In Changsha, there are seven important historical monuments
under state protection and 38 under province
protection in Changsha. Among the world-renowned
cultural relics are the Western Han Dynasty (206
B.C. - 24 A.D.) excavated from Mawangdui and the
bamboo slips discovered from Zoumalou. Main
places of interest at Changsha include the Hunan
University, Hunan Provincial Museum, Juzizhou
Islet, Lei Fei Memorial Museum, Maoist Pilgrimage Spots
such as the Hunan No. 1 Teachers' Training
School and the former Office of the Hunan Communist

Yuelu Mountain is also a famous tourist
attraction which has attractions such as the Yuelu Gongyuan (Bottom of the High
Mountain Park), Yuelu Academy, Yuelu Temple,
Yuele Palace, King Yu Tablet and Aiwan Pavilion
(also known as Aiwan Ting which is translated as
the Loving Dusk Pavilion). If there is time on

Pavilion) is worth checking out since it is the
only part of the old city walls that is left in
