A very popular tourist attraction in Chengde, the magnificent Eight Outlying Temples (also known as the Eight Outer Temples) shows a combination of Han, Mongolian and Tibetan cultures with each having its unique style. This place of interest houses the most famous temples in Chengde. Located in the northern section of the Imperial Summer Palace, this attraction represents one of China's most intriguing religious architecture. The temples displayed here are mostly built in the mid 1700's with the Putuozongcheng Temple (Putuozongcheng Zhi Miao) and Temple of Universal Tranquility (Puning Si) being the most popular temples here. The statue of the Goddess of Mercy at Puning Si is one of the most magnificent structure seen in this region. In December 1994, the Eight Outlying Temples was included on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
