Chengde cuisine is
the representative of the imperial cuisine
beyond the Great Wall but it is different from
the imperial cuisine of Beijing because Chengde
cuisine is mainly prepared with wild animals
hunted from the
mountains. Local specialty such as deer and
pheasant meat are easily bought from the local
markets here whereby these local wild animals
meat has become a part of life among the locals here
and these delicacies are found in most eating
stalls and famous restaurants in Chengde.
The famous local dishes include Pingquan Frozen Rabbit Meat, Fried Pheasant
Rolls and Game Hotpot. In the street, south of
the Mountain Resort, there are many elegantly
decorated restaurants, where customers can taste
special local dishes. Popular restaurants
include the Henghexiang Kaoyadian which serves
authentic dishes such as roast duck, spicy deer
cuisine and deep fried pheasant and Shanxiying
Jie which is located at the north side of
Nanyingzi Dajie serving delicious street food.
