LOCAL CUISINE IN CHENGDE

Chengde cuisine is the representative of the imperial cuisine beyond the Great Wall but it is different from the imperial cuisine of Beijing because Chengde cuisine is mainly prepared with wild animals hunted from the mountains. Local specialty such as deer and pheasant meat are easily bought from the local markets here whereby these local wild animals meat has become a part of life among the locals here and these delicacies are found in most eating stalls and famous restaurants in Chengde.

 

The famous local dishes include Pingquan Frozen Rabbit Meat, Fried Pheasant Rolls and Game Hotpot. In the street, south of the Mountain Resort, there are many elegantly decorated restaurants, where customers can taste special local dishes. Popular restaurants include the Henghexiang Kaoyadian which serves authentic dishes such as roast duck, spicy deer cuisine and deep fried pheasant and Shanxiying Jie which is located at the north side of Nanyingzi Dajie serving delicious street food.
