TYPES OF TRANSPORTATION IN CHENGDU

By Air

In Sichuan province, the best transportation system is found in Chengdu. Chengdu is regarded as a very important city in southwestern China because of its convenient communications. More than 160 scheduled flights go regularly from here to over 60 large and medium-sized cities in China such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong and also to countries like Singapore and Thailand.

 

The Shuangliu International Airport is only 20 kilometers from the city of Chengdu. Shuttle buses travel from the Air Ticket Office at 41 the Second Section of Renmin South Road to the Shuangliu Airport once every 30 minutes. Passengers are charged 8 yuan per person. Bus No. 303 also goes to the airport. Costing about 40 yuan, travelers can catch a taxi to the airport which is both convenient and faster.

By Rail

 

Another preferred mode of transport is to travel by trains in Chengdu since the largest railway transportation hub in southwest China is found in Chengdu. The Baoji-Chengdu, Chengdu-Kunming and Chengdu-Chongqing railways meet in Chengdu and continue its journey to all other major cities in China such as Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Guiyang, Kunming, Nanjing, Nanning, Shanghai, Urumqi, Wuhan and Xi'an.

 

The Chengdu-Kunming, Chengdu-Emei, Chengdu-Yibin and Chengdu-Jiangyou special tourist trains is available for tourists' convenience.

 

There are two railway stations in Chengdu namely the North Railway Station (which can be reached by bus Nos. 11, 16, 24, 28, 55 or 70) and the South Railway Station (which can be reached by bus Nos. 16 and 49).

 

There are many train ticket offices in the city which sell train tickets through the computer network. Passengers can also book train tickets at the hotels or travel services.

By Urban Traffic Facilities  

 

Public buses

The fares of the public buses in Chengdu is 1 yuan while an air-conditioned bus costs 2 yuan. The most popular bus among visitors is the No. 16 bus that travels from Chengdu's north train station to the south train station along the busy Renmin Nanlu.

 

Taxis

Touring the city by taxi is also convenient. Taxi fares are 5 yuan for the first km and then it is 1.4 yuan per km thereafter.

 

To get a closer view of Chengdu, renting a bicycle from one of the many guesthouses available here is a good way to explore this intriguing city.
