The Shanhua Temple,
also known as the South Temple, is located on
the western side of South Street in Datong. It
was built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and
it is well known for its ancient architectures.
This beautiful temple was damaged by fire during
the Liao dynasty but some of its halls and
pavilions were rebuilt with more restoration
work being carried out during the Ming dynasty.
Among the attractions found here are the statues
of twenty-four divine generals and the small
dragon screen located at the monastery grounds.
