Dunhuang has
different kinds of cultural and recreational
activities yearly. During early spring, local
people hold costume dance parties and various
village festive activities. A popular folk opera
performed in the villages is the Meihu Opera in
Dunhuang.
The 'Dunhuang
Summer' in Dunhuang is a large song and dance activity which
is held from 6.00pm to 11.00pm daily from June
to October with strong cultural characteristics
of the Ancient Silk Road. The songs and dances
are created according to the murals in Mogao
Caves with Dunhuang Dance as the main theme
displaying the dances, colorful costumes and
music of various ethnic groups on the Silk Road.
