SIGHTSEEING IN DUNHUANG

By Air

 

Located 13 kilometers east of the city is the Dunhuang Airport of Dunhuang. There are 38 weekly scheduled flights from Dunhuang to Beijing, Lanzhou, Xi'an and other smaller cities in China. To get to the airport, visitors can either catch the CAAC bus or hire a minibus which are common types of transport in Dunhuang.

 

 

By Rail

 

There are no railways in the city of Dunhuang itself. Visitors can travel to the Dunhuang Railway Station (originally known as the Liuyuan Railway Station) in Anxi County, 128 km north of Dunhuang City and then catch a bus to Dunhuang. Regular trains go from Dunhuang Railway Station to several dozens of cities in China such as Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Lanzhou and Urumqi.

By Urban Traffic Facilities

 

Dunhuang has over 320 taxis which operates 24 hours a day and also over 300 rickshaws to take visitors sightseeing. There are also many mini buses running along the fixed routes in the city. If you are going sightseeing outside town, you may want to charter a taxi or a minivan. On Mingshan Road in the city of Dunhuang, there are four shops which provide the services of renting out bicycles to tourists. A tourist bus or a luxury air-conditioned bus may be rented by contacting the local travel services or the star-rated hotels. A common China-made bus too may be rented by contacting the passenger transport companies. The best way to see Dunhuang town is to walk since the town is not that big or you can just use one of the many mode of transportation in Dunhuang.
