As a top attraction
in Dunhuang and located 90 kilometers
northwest of Dunhuang, the Yumen Pass (Yumen
Guan) stands on a gravel hillock and is known
for its ancient ruins. It is also known as the Small
Square Plate City or Jade Gate Pass. The city
is square in shape and the city walls and two
gates at the west and north side respectively
are all well preserved. The city wall is 10 meters
high, 3 meters wide at the top and 5 meters wide
at the bottom. Both people and horses can go
directly up to the wall.
