If you are sightseeing in Guangzhou, walking around Guangzhou is not advisable since most of the tourist attractions in Guangzhou are scattered around town which extends for sixty square kilometers. You are advised to use the many types of transportation in Guangzhou which include the subway line and the public buses but bear in mind that the latter are always packed to the limit. By Air

With an area of 14.4 square kilometers, the New White Cloud International Airport took the lead in China in constructing two runways simultaneously. The main building of the airport covers an area of 300,000 square meters. It is planned that by 2010, the airport will have a capacity of handling 25 million passengers and one million tons of freight. Both sides of the main building are in arc. The airport has 16 parking places for international planes and 43 parking places for domestic planes. You will be delighted to know that there is a regular airport bus that travels from the CAAC office to the airport.

 

Scheduled flights go from Guangzhou to Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Seoul, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne and other major cities in the world.

By Rail

Guangzhou has three railway stations: Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station and Guangzhou North Railway Station. As an important communications hub in south China, Guangzhou has a perfect service system and provides excellent services to tourists.

Public Buses

The public buses in Guangzhou do not have conductors and passengers are required to throw coins into a box when getting on a bus. This city has an extensive network of motor and electric trolley-buses. In general, the air-conditioned buses charge 2 yuan a passenger while the normal buses charge 1 yuan per person.

 

In addition, special buses run on the lines with a large number of passengers and long distance. The prices are different depending on the length of the trip.

 

Subways

The subways are a new transport and communications system in Guangzhou. The price for one-way ticket varies from 2 - 6 yuan. For passengers' convenience, there are also saving cards in two denominations: 50 yuan and 100 yuan.

 

The first subway line started operating from Guangzhou east train station in the northeast to Zhu Jiang in the southwest. There are three subway lines in Guangzhou: No.1, No.2 and No.3 subways. Of them, No.3 subway runs from the Guangzhou East Railway Station to Fanyu Square, 36.86 kilometers long, and go along the central axial line of the New City and Fanyu District from north to south in Guangzhou.

 

 

Taxis

The taxis in Guangzhou charges 2.6 yuan or 2.2 yuan per km, with the starting price of 7 yuan. Taxis run 24 hours a day, offering great convenience to tourists. At the airport and the railway station, there are special areas to get a taxi.
