CONFUCIUS TEMPLE IN NANJING

JIANGSU , CHINA

The Confucius Temple (also known as Fuzi Miao or Confucian Temple) in Nanjing is for consecrating and worshiping Confucius, the great thinker and educator in ancient China. This place was a centre of Confucian study for more than one thousand and five hundred years. This complex of ancient architectures includes the Large Screen Wall, Lingxing Gate, Kuiguang Pavilion, Study Palace, East and West markets and many more. Located at the eastern section of the temple complex is the Imperial Examinations History Museum. This was the place where scholars spent most of their time studying Confucian classics when preparing for their civil service examinations.

Except for the Large Screen Wall on the southern bank of river, all of the ancient architectures are on the northern bank. The Large Screen Wall was built in 1575 (the third year of the Wanli reign period of the Ming Dynasty), 110 meters long and 10 meters high, ranking first in China. On the either side of the Confucius Temple are the East and West markets, an ideal place for the temple fair.
