Jinling Lantern Festival in Nanjing

 

Event: Legend has it that during the Hongwu reign period (1368-1398) of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang issued a decree that the lantern festival be celebrated, letting the people of the whole country join in the jubilation. Both banks of the Qinhuai River are decorated with colorful lantern and packed with people and the whole city will be permeated with a festive atmosphere.

 

Time: The festival starts from the Spring Festival and lasts one month. In particular, at the night of the 15th day of the first lunar month every year.

 

Venue: The Lantern Festival is mainly held in the area near the Confucius Temple.
