For sightseeing in Nanjing, taxis provide the best mode of transportation. This is the best type of transport in Nanjing to move from one tourist attraction to another tourist attraction in Nanjing. Visitors may also use the tourist bus which stops at most of the main places of interest in the city.

 

By Air

The Nanjing Lukou International Airport is 35.8 kilometers from the city. Completed in July 1997, this large airport has 65 domestic air routes radiating to over 20 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, Hong Kong and Macao in China, as well as international air routes to Seoul and Kuala Lumpur. Chartered planes fly back and forth between Nanjing to Nagoya and Bangkok. To get to the airport, there is a minibus service that takes you there from Hanzhong Road (opposite the Sheraton Nanjing Kingsley Hotel).

By Rail

The Beijing-Shanghai, Nanjing-Tongli railways meet in Nanjing. The city has four railway stations, namely Nanjing Railway Station, Nanjing West Railway Station, Nanjing North Railway Station and Nanjing South Railway Station. Everyday many express and quick trains leave Nanjing for the other parts of the country.

Steamboats

Nanjing is one of the important ports on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The port in Nanjing covers an area of 93.866 million square meters and the Nanjing Port Passenger Transport Station is the largest wharf for shipping passengers. Steamboats ship passengers to Chongqing on the upper reaches and to Shanghai on the lower reaches with annual passenger traffic of 1.5 million persons. The New Nanjing Port can hold luxury pleasure boats.

 

 

By Urban Transport Facilities

At present Nanjing has more than 2,000 public buses including double-deck buses, luxury tourist buses and urban sightseeing buses with dense bus routes. These public transport in Nanjing is both efficient and cheap. Taxis in Nanjing charge 1.6 yuan per km with the starting price of 7 yuan for the first 3 km. Taxis can be easily spotted along the main streets while motor-tricycles is also common.
