The Qinhuai River,
an important branch of the Yangtze River on the
lower reaches, is divided into Inner Qinhuai
and Outer Qinhuai rivers. The Outer Qinhuai River
is the moat of the city which runs around the city
and empties into the Yangtze River. The Inner
Qinhuai River enters Nanjing from East Water
Pass and runs out of the city from West Water
Pass, totaling 5 kilometers long and hence the name 'Ten
Li Qinhuai River'.
