Confucius Temple in Nanjing, ChinaNanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, is on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River (also known as Yangzi River or Chang Jiang). It lies totally on the southern bank of Yangtze River, bounded in the east by Zijin Shan. Nanjing has an area of 6,421 square kilometers and a population of 5.53 million. If you are at the centre of town, a bronze statue of Sun Yat Sen can be seen at the Xinjiekou roundabout which is also a major landmark in this city. This is a popular tourist area since a lot of hotels can be found here besides excellent tourist facilities. Nanjing entered a centre stage in the Chinese history in the 19th century when the Opium Wars brought the British to Nanjing while in the 20th century, it was the site of one of the worst war atrocity which was known as the 'Rape of Nanjing'.
