The Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai was built in honor of two jade Buddha from Myanmar by Buddhist monk Hui Gen in 1882. Since it is one of the few active Buddhist temples in Shanghai, this magnificent temple is packed with devotees everyday. Located on Anyuan Road, the attractions here are the sitting jade Buddha which is close to two meters tall and it is remarkably carved from a single piece of jade, and the sleeping Buddha (reclining Buddha) which reclines on a mahogany couch. Visitors from all over the world come here just to look at the two jade statues of Sakyamuni in this well-preserved monastery of Zen Buddhism.
