The largest public square in Shanghai, the People's Square in Shanghai has become the political and cultural center of the city ever since it was rebuilt in 1994. Previously the site of the Shanghai racecourse, the main attractions here at the People Square in Shanghai are the massive fountain called The Light of Huangpu River, the breathtaking manicured lawns and the intricate relief carvings that portray the history of Shanghai. Seen here at the People's Square are the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall and the Municipal Government Buildings. Other symbolic buildings around this famous tourist area in Shanghai include the Shanghai Government Building, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai Exhibition Center and a grand underground shopping plaza completes this major tourist attraction.
