This well known Forest of Steles Museum in Xian houses a large variety of exhibits denoted largely to Silk Road history. One of the more popular item among visitors to this museum is the tiger-shaped tally from the Warring States period but the most important display here is the Forest of Steles which is the heaviest collection of books in the world whereby the earliest among these engraved stone tablets can be traced back to the Han dynasty.

 

Among the exhibits here include the Popular Stele of Daiqin Nestorianism which was engraved in AD 781 to indicate the opening of a Nestorian church., Ming De Shou Ji Stele which details the peasant uprising against the Ming and the 114 Stone Classics of Kaichen from the Tang dynasty. Tourists will be glad to know that English guides are available and most of the exhibits here have explanations written in English.

 

Opening times: 8.00am to 6.00pm

Admission: 30 yuan.
