Next to the Lishan Mountain (Black Horse Mountain) in the south and Weishui River in the north, Huaqing Pool in Xian (Huaqing Chi) is 30 kilometers east of the ancient capital of Xian in Lintong County. In the sixth year during his reign, Tang Emperor Xuan Zong built the palaces surrounded by mountains and encircled by a city which was called Huaqing Pool whereby he would spend the whole winter here with his favorite Concubine Yang and enjoyed the hot spring royal baths here. During those times, these natural hot baths were a favored retreat of emperors and their concubines. The hot spring that flows down from the Lishan Mountain is about 430C and contains various kinds of minerals. Today this area has more than 100 public bathhouses for visitors to enjoy hot spring baths.
