The Huajue Mosque
(Grand Mosque) in Xian was built in the first
year of the Tianbao reign of Tang Emperor Xuanzong
and has a history of some 1,250 years. Located
northwest of the Drum Tower, this great mosque
in Xian occupies an area of 13,000 square meters
and have a floor space of more than 6,000 square
meters. This oblong mosque in the Muslim Quarter
in Xian is made up of four courtyards and it
combines the Islamic and Han architectural designs.
The Chinese architectural design is shown by the
numerous gardens on its grounds.
As the largest
mosque in China, the main building is the hall
which is seven bays wide and nine bays deep and
it is made up of the front corridor, service
section and the rear section whereby the service
section is big enough for more than 1,000 people
prayer hall is only for Muslims.
