To sightsee in Xiamen, travelers can use one of the many efficient transport system in Xiamen. Getting around in Xiamen is not too difficult even if you do not speak a word of Mandarin. The transportation system in Xiamen is sufficiently adequate. Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is 12 kilometers away from the downtown area and has opened air routes to more than 50 big cities and scenic areas. There is a bus that can take you from the airport to the ferry terminal via the train station.

By Rail

Visitors from north China can reach Xiamen using the Yingtan-Xiamen Railway Line. Because travelers are forced to take a devious route if they come to Xiamen from Fujian, Jiangxi or Guangdong provinces by train, less and less people come to Xiamen by train, except for the special train from Xiamen to Wuyi Mountain departing in the evening. Try avoid using the trains if possible to the long journey.

By Highways

The state highway No. 324 goes through Xiamen, Zhangzhou, Quanzhou and reaches Shantou in Guangdong Province and is the main highway between south Fujian and Guangdong. It takes 7 hours by coach from Xiamen to Guangzhou.

 

 

By Urban Transport Facilities

Xiamen has developed public transport in its downtown area. The taxi fare is 8 yuan for the first 3 kilometers, then 2 yuan for 1 kilometer for a distance of less than 8 kilometers then it is 3 yuan per kilometer after the distance of more than 8 kilometers. Beside the taxis service, there is a regular minibus service that runs between the ferry terminal and the train station.
