ZHAOLING MAUSOLEUM IN XIAN

SHAANXI , CHINA

A famous place of interest in Xian which is located about twenty three kilometers in the northeast section of Liquan County on Jiuzong Hill is the historical site of Zhaoling Mausoleum in Xian (also known as Zhao Tomb). The unique feature about this Zhao tomb in Xian is that it was built on mountain slopes unlike the traditional method of building tombs on the plains with an artificial hill over them. Tourists flocked here to see the tomb of the second Tang emperor, Tai Zong of the Tang Dynasty and the cultural relics such as stone tablets and epitaphs.

Within the compound, lesser tombs of high-ranking military and government officials can be seen. However, the four famous stone carvings in relief of the Six Steeds, the horses the emperor used during war, which was displayed at the sacrificial altar before the tomb have since been relocated to the Shaanxi Museum.
