Buoyancy Compensator Devices (BCD)

One important scuba diving equipment is the buoyancy compensator device which will help you to adjust buoyancy when you ascend and descend. Without the BCD you will either be constantly finning to prevent yourself from sinking or involuntarily float to the surface with possible problems. The reason that you can remain neutrally buoyant in the water is because BCDs continuously add or remove air from the air bladder. BCD, known as adjustable buoyancy life jackets or stab jackets, are a multi-component system to which the scuba cylinder, regulator, alternative air supply, accessories and weights are attached whereby the whole system can be put on or remove as a single unit. Wings, also known as the back-mounted inflation BCD, is usually used by underwater photographers. Most BCDs have a low pressure 'direct-feed' or 'power-inflator' connected to the regulator for easy inflation. Should you over inflate the bladder, you will be glad to know that all BCDs have over pressure release valves. You must always make sure that your BCD is dry before packing it away.
