ESSENTIAL OILS IN AROMATHERAPY

Without essential oils, aromatherapy is basically non existence but choosing from the many different types of essential oils available may give you a headache. High quality essential oils can be expensive but the main criteria is to select oils that both meet your personal needs and are as versatile as possible. Among the common types of essential oils widely used are rose, rosemary, peppermint, tea tree, lemon, eucalyptus, lavender, sandalwood, juniper and rose geranium essential oil.

These basic essential oils can be blended or used individually as you required. You are always advised to add other types into your list for special types of treatments. One important rule is that if you do not like the scent of an essential oil, do not use it. Always let your nose guide you to the essential oils that will be most beneficial to you.

As with most other treatment, care is needed in aromatherapy. Never ingest essential oil on your own initiative and remember to dilute essential oils before applying them to the skin. A golden rule to remember is that if you experience any discomfort, skin irritation or sensitivity, immediately discontinue usage. Please be advised that certain medical conditions require extra caution. For example, if you are pregnant, consult your doctor before using aromatherapy. Likewise if you have cancer, asthma, high or low blood pressure, epilepsy or if you are taking any medications. In addition, if you are using homeopathic remedies, aromatherapy can diminish their effects. It is best to avoid using essential oils if you are under homeopathic care or consult your homeopathic practitioner.

You will guaranteed satisfaction whether you choose to use aromatherapy occasionally or every day. Sinking into a relaxing aromatherapy bath after work or indulging in a weekly aromatherapy massage will not only help your body and mind but it will also soothe your spirit. However, please note that even frequent aromatherapy cannot counteract the effects of a poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle or a stressed-out approach to life. Whether you are trying to overcome a specific physical or mental problem or you are just seeking greater overall health, it only works if you use aromatherapy to complement good eating and exercise habits but using good essential oils are known to really help in aromatherapy.
