HOW TO APPLY AROMATHERAPY

There are many different ways to apply aromatherapy in your daily routine. Smelling of essential oils is one of the common methods of using aromatherapy. The most simple method to use aromatherapy is to smell the essential oils whether directly from the bottle, with steam, in your home with the help of a diffusor or an aromatherapy air freshener or on your body with a personal perfume. No matter which way you choose, the aroma will be definitely pleasant and its healing properties are inhaled into your lungs and diffused throughout your body.

Smelling salts is one of the many types of aromatherapy used for generations whereby the strong smell of ammonia could rouse almost anyone from a faint. Fortunately, using essential oils as inhalants will be much more nicer and pleasant. It is a known fact that direct inhalation works particularly well for respiratory complaints, stress, emotional conditions and nausea. You can use a suggested blend or simply select one or more of the oils recommended for treating your specific condition and mix them together in a small glass bottle but always make sure to choose oils with aromas that you enjoy.

There are two things you can do which is to open the bottle and inhale the scent directly or you can place two or three drops on a tissue to inhale periodically throughout the day. Sinus problems respond especially well to steam inhalations. A mixture of steaming water and essential oils can also be used to treat other respiratory ailments such as colds and the flu, sore throats and nervous complaints such as anxiety and stress. To prepare a steam inhalation, use a large heat-proof bowl that has been placed safely on a tabletop and fill it about halfway with steaming water and add between three and six drops of an essential oil or a blend. A good oil to start with is lavender because it is helpful to overcome anxiety, depression and as well as respiratory problems. You can sit comfortably and place a towel over your head to trap your steam. Inhale deeply for five to ten minutes.

Steam is also an effective way to use essential oils to cleanse the complexion. Use frankincense, geranium, jasmine, rose, vetiver or a combination of several for normal skin. As for dry skin, bergamot, fennel, geranium, myrrh and sandalwood are recommended. Cedarwood, cypress, lemon, orange, peppermint, tea tree and ylang ylang can prevent oily skin while sensitive skin responds best to chamomile, rose and rosewood.

Using air fresheners and diffusors will help you to perfume your home with healing essential oils. For everyday use, choose an essential oil or a blend that the whole family enjoys. In sickrooms, antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal oil such as tea tree, eucalyptus, bergamot and geranium can aid to purify and cleanse the air to help control germs. You might want to select an anti-anxiety or anti-stress aroma such as lavender, chamomile or petitgrain in your office. With respect to an aromatherapy air freshener, you are advised to mix distilled water with four to ten drops of essential oil per ounce of fluid and pour into a spray bottle. Evenly spray the mixture into the room just as you would any air freshener and it is important to make sure to shake well before each use.

Diffusors distribute essential oil molecules into the air. Many of these devices operates using electricity whereby you can simply add your chosen oil or blend and plug it in while others such as aromatherapy lamps use a candle to heat a mixture of water and essential oils to disperse the aroma. To use a lamp, fill the bowl with water and add up to twenty drops of your oil or blend then light the candle and the scent will slowly fill all corners of the room. You can carry your favorite essential oils anywhere you go by making your own personal perfume. You can choose a suggested blend or create your own by adding up to twenty drops of essential oils that you like to one-eighth of an ounce of jojoba oil. Dab the mixture on your pulse points and slowly sit down to enjoy the pleasant smell.
