West Nusa Tenggara
is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. The Wallace
Line, named after 19th century naturalist, Alfred
Russell Wallace, marks a point of transition
between the flora and fauna of eastern and
western Indonesia and acts as the western
boundary of West Nusa Tenggara which is mainly
made up of two main islands of Lombok Island and
Sumbawa Island with hundreds of small islands
spread around them. Tourist attractions in West
Nusa Tenggara are mostly nature related whereby
bird watching is a main activity in West Nusa
Tenggara.
The islands of
Lombok and Sumbawa was once thought to be dull
and uninteresting, difficult to get to and its
people unfriendly. It was once said that Lombok
was used for shortbreak away from Bali while
Sumbawa was only valued for the cheap land route
it offered to Komodo and beyond.
Times have changed
and the door has now opened with more tourists
visiting the two enchanting islands that still
retain the mystique of the east and glowing with
an aura of the past. Famous places of interest
in West Nusa Tenggara include is white sandy
beaches and tiny islands along its shores. As
time goes by, more and more visitors can be seen
coming here to enjoy the both the beach and the
beautiful scenery. The beauty of the landscape
is relatively unspoilt with ideal countryside
for trekking by those with adventurous spirit
and the attractions in Lombok and the attractions
in Sumbawa are getting more and more popular as
time goes by.
