Lost Luggage Insurance

For domestic flights, checked baggage is covered up to a certain amount for a ticketed passenger which the amount differs for international flights. Therefore if you plan to check items more valuable than the standard liability, you may purchase excess valuation coverage from the airline. Remember to take all valuables or irreplaceable items with you in your hand-carry luggage even though you are covered by a Lost Luggage Insurance which is an essential type of travel insurance nowadays.

Always be prepared to list down in detail the contents of your baggage  should you file a lost luggage claim and be sure to file the claim immediately as most airlines enforce a three weeks deadline. It is wise to compile an inventory of all packed items and a rough estimate of the total value to ensure you are properly compensated if your luggage becomes lost. You will get back what you lost and nothing more. Always persist in securing your reimbursement after you have filed your complaint since there is no laws governing the length of time it takes for an airline to reimburse you. An airline will usually comply with your request to forward your bags to the hotel or to your next destination should you arrive at a destination minus your bags. The carrier may reimburse you a minimum sum if your bag is delayed although they are under no obligation to do so. With more and more travelers flying nowadays, the possibility of passengers missing their traveling bags has now become quite common. Your homeowner's or renter's policy may cover lost luggage as do most platinum and gold credit cards owners. Should you choose to buy more lost luggage insurance, it is advisable to buy more than you need because missing luggage is a common problem now.
