FUJI HAKONE - TOKYO

ATTRACTIONS IN FUJI HAKONE

JAPAN

Traveling one-and-a-half hours by train from Tokyo's Shinjuku Station will bring you to Hakone, a popular hot spring resort area set in the beautiful mountains, which is made up of Fuji-Hakone Izu National Park. A place of interest here is the Chokoku-no-mori Museum which displays over hundreds of 19th and 20th century sculptures by Western and Japanese artists in the open air. One stop on the Hakone Tozan Railway to Gora will bring you to the center town of the Hakone area. A ride on the ropeway via Sounzan will lead you to Owakudani or the Great Boiling Valley, a famous tourist attraction in this region. It is a place where steam and sulfurous fumes rise from crevices in the rocks.

From Togendai, a pleasure cruise around Lake Ashinoko will give you the chance to witness the spectacular view of Mount Fuji (Mt. Fuji). Not only is Mt. Fuji the highest mountain in Japan at 3,776 meters but it is also Japan's most recognized symbol. A stroll from Hakonemachi Town on the ancient Cedar Avenue will take you to the Hakone Checkpoint, a point which safeguarded the security of Edo (known as Tokyo today) as the seat of the Shogunate. Historical relics and documents are being displayed here and can be viewed by the public.
