To start off the day
with a refreshing and crisp morning and to
escape from the hustle and bustle of the city,
Inokashira Park is the place to begin. The park
is located only twenty minutes from central
Tokyo. Starting from JR Mitaka Station, a
fifteen minute stroll along the Tamagawa Josui
Waterworks will take you to the green woods of
Inokashira Park which is famous for its
magnificent cherry trees. The clean air will
make you feel fresh again and the park is full
of people during spring. Flea markets and
performance artists can be seen here during the
weekends.
The main attraction
in the park is the Ghibli Museum which was
designed by Hayao Miyazaki, Japan's top
animation director known for his Academy Award
winning show titled 'Sprited Away". The unique
space filled with charm and fantasy will evoke
your childhood memories. Close to the park, a
casual and comfortable town called Kichijoji is
located there. The area around Tokyu Department
Store has a selection of small-size restaurants
from which visitors can choose to have lunch.
A fifteen minute
ride on the JR Chuo Line will bring you to
Shinjuku, the busy center of Tokyo. Shinjuku is
unofficially divided into the West Exit area and
the East Exit area. The West Exit area is a
business district with a row of high-rise
buildings. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government
Office Building, designed by an award-winning
architect, Kenzo Tange, commands superb views of
the city from the observation deck in the
45-storey twin towers. On a cloudless day,
tourists will have the opportunity to get a
excellent view of Mount Fuji, Japan's most
famous landmark.
The night view is
just as breathtaking. The East Exit area is a
crowded commercial area with a row of department
stores and the leading entertainment district
Kabuki-cho, the town that never sleeps where
party-goers danced throughout the night. Eating
dinner in this area will give you an interesting
and memorable experience.
