YOKOHAMA - TOKYO

YOKOHAMA

JAPAN

Japan's second largest city can be reached by just traveling for 30 minutes by train from Tokyo. Yokohama is one of the first Japanese cities that allowed foreigners to stay during the Meiji Restoration (1868-1911) and since then become one of Japan's busiest port cities with many historic buildings in the background. Visitors will surely enjoy a stroll down the Motomachi Shopping Street.

Also found here is the Foreign Cemetery which has about 3,000 graves of foreigners who contributed to Japan's opening to the world. The Harbor View Park is a hilltop park which offers a great view of the harbor area. Yokohama's China Town, bordered by four different-colored Chinese gates facing each compass direction has about 500 restaurants and shops for visitors to choose from. There is never a dull moment here.

The Yamashita Park, the oldest seaside park in Japan, stretches for about 1,000 meters along the Yokohama Harbor and you can also view the Hikawa Maru, a 12,000 ton passenger ship used from 1930 to 1960. A mini cruise on the 'Sea Bass' would take you to the 'Minato Mirai 21' district on the waterfront which is highly popular among the young generation. A most pleasurable shopping and incredible gourmet experience can be enjoyed by all over here.
