Desaru, one of Johor's most
famous beach and about 80 kilometers by road from Johor
Bahru is also known as the 'The Village of
Casuarinas'. A popular tourist attraction, it is situated on a 20 kilometers stretch
of pristine beach land in the southeast corner
of the peninsula. This famous weekend retreat on
a stretch of beach at Tanjung Penawar is
frequented mostly by Singaporeans. Parts of it are good for
windsurfing and sailing. There are places for
snorkeling, canoeing and facilities for many
other types of watersports are also available.
Nearby are cascading
falls, natural lakes and jungles where one can
go jungle trekking. Desaru contains
international-class
hotels and is known for the Desaru Golf and
Country Club Resort which has a 36-hole
international golf course. Places to stay and
accommodations here
include the more expensive Desaru Golden Beach
Hotel and the Desaru Leisure Camp. Prices can be
slightly more expensive during weekends and
public holidays. Another stretch of
pristine beach found in Teluk Ramunia can also
be found nearby which is just located about 10
kilometers south Desaru.
