ENDAU ROMPIN NATIONAL PARK

Located on the Johor-Pahang border, is the famous Endau-Rompin National Park, home to several animal species like the deer, elephants, leopards, tigers and rare Sumatran rhinos. The park occupies an area of 490 square kilometers and is rich in flora and fauna. Endau Rompin is also the second largest park found in Peninsula Malaysia after the popular Taman Negara in Pahang. Tourists will be amazed by the many species of plants that are found here which is mostly dominated by the lowland forests and the unique umbrella palms. Close by are the waterfalls of Kuala Jasin and the towns of Upih Guling and Buaya Sangkut whereby camping sites, chalets, dormitories, toilets are among the facilities that are found here. One interesting place to visit is the Janing Barat Plateau which is located at the southeastern section of the Kuala Jasin base camp. For those who spent at least a few days here, a place of attraction to visit is the highest waterfall on the river, the Buaya Sangkut Falls.

 

Visitors first has to get to Kluang and on to Kahang before finding their way to the park. From Kahang, a four-wheel drive vehicle will take the adventure seekers to Kampung Peta which has a Visitors Centre for registration. One can also reach Kampung Peta by boat from Felda Nitar II land scheme. Guides can be hired at the park headquarters at Kampung Peta.

To enjoy a hassle free trip here, visitors should join organized tours which can be arranged by many travel agency. The most accessible region of this famous park is found at the area along the banks of Sungai Endau and Sungai Jasin. Short trips to view the mangrove swamps and mud flats and the unspoilt beauty beyond the headwaters of the Endau River can be arranged by getting entry permits from the State Security Council office in Johor Bahru. A few preferred places to stay include the A-frames at Kuala Jasin at Batu Hampar or you can camp above the falls at Buaya Sangkut.
