MERSING

JOHORE / JOHOR , MALAYSIA

Mersing is an important and busy fishing town located on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Located about 130 kilometers north of the capital city of Johor and less than 190 kilometers south of Kuantan, some beautiful attractions found at the southern area of this small fishing village are the stunning beaches at Sri Pantai Beach and Sekakap Beach. Mersing is getting more and more popular with the tourists nowadays. Mersing has a population of about 70,000 and this town continues to thrive simply because this attraction is seen as as the gateway to many of the idyllic islands off its coast. On the upper north, beaches of Ayer Papan (Air Papan) and Penyabong can be seen there in which the latter is the best mainland beach in this region. Air Papan is a sandy beach which was used as a transit point for logs floating from nearby islands to the mainland before being moved inland by lorries and this place of interest presently is filled with chalets and resorts which line the beach. Mersing is a relaxing place to spend the day with plenty of good restaurants to satisfy your taste buds. The two main streets found here is Jalan Abu Bakar and Jalan Ismail which is also the busiest section of this town.

Besides these stunning beaches, this coastal town is also the main departure point for nearby islands of the Seribuat Archipelago. From Mersing, visitors can easily travel to the Tioman Island, also known as Pulau Tioman, while tourists can travel to Pulau Sibu and Pulau Rawa from Tanjung Leman. There are also boat rides to Pulau Tengah and Pulau Besar. Mersing has its own attraction in Kelong Acheh where visitors can literally catch fish for their own meals. The kelong (long fish traps) is about 20km from the jetty. To learn more about this holiday destination, the Mersing Tourist Information Centre at 07-7995212 will be readily and happily to assist you in anyway possible.
