ROYAL ABU BAKAR MUSEUM (SULTAN ABU BAKAR MUSEUM)

JOHORE / JOHOR , MALAYSIA

One of the oldest buildings in Johor Bahru, this 'Grand Palace of Johore' is named after Sultan Abu Bakar who laid the foundation stone in 1864. Formerly the Istana Besar, this grand building faces the Straits of Johor. Sporting a cosmopolitan architectural style, the Sulatan Abu Bakar Museum reflects a distinct Anglo-Malay character. It plays a dual role as the Royal Abu Bakar Museum, home to treasures from the Royal collection. This place is now open to tourists as the Muzium Diraja Abu Bakar.

Located along Jalan Tun Dr. Ismail, the exhibits here include a collection of beautiful rare antiques. Among the exhibits which will awed visitors at this royal museum are the Chinese and Malay carved wooden pieces. The Throne Room and Museum is located on the North Wing and all royal events, state banquets and receptions are held at this palace. The Palace Gardens situated nearby has a marvelous sprawling landscaped Japanese garden with a variety of flowers and plants.
