The Ulu Tiram Estate
is actually a working plantation which is
specially open to visitors located on the road
to Mersing. Visitors who visit this charming
estate, which is made up of a rubber plantation
and palm oil plantation, is given a once in a lifetime opportunity
to observe how latex is tapped from the rubber
trees and the other processes that follow until
they are ready to be exported.
Besides this,
visitors too can view the workings of a palm oil
factory and learn how the oil is extracted and
refined to form the base for products like
margarine, soap and cosmetics. The oil is
extracted from the orange colored fruit which
grows in bunches just underneath the fronds.
Malaysia is now one of the world's top producer
of palm oil.
