BALAI NOBAT

KEDAH - NORTH OF MALAYSIA

Balai Nobat, known as Hall of Drums, in Alor Setar is the place where the sacred musical instruments of the Royal Orchestra (nobat) are being kept whereby these musical instruments are only being used during royal ceremonies of inaugurations, weddings and funerals. This place of interest is an octagonal building with an onion-shaped dome on its top. Items that make up these instruments include a gong, three drums and a flute which produces the memorable rhythm of nobat music and the drums were believed to be gifts from the Sultan of Melaka.
