AIR HANGAT VILLAGE - LANGKAWI

HOT SPRING VILLAGE

KEDAH - NORTH OF MALAYSIA

The Hot Spring Village (Air Hangat Village), a famous cultural centre and tourist attraction, is based around natural hot springs and it is another favorite stopover. Legend or not, the hot spring water is believed to have healing power and can cure ailments such as rheumatism, arthritis as well as rejuvenate the mind and soul and this is the main reason tourists come here. The springs here are linked to a legend involving a dispute between Langkawi's two powerful families over a marriage proposal whereby kitchen utensils are thrown everywhere and the saucepan of hot water (air hangat) was believed to have landed in this place and thus the name Air Hangat Village.

This two hectare complex consists of a eighteen meters riverstone mural which is the main attraction here, a theatre restaurant and most importantly a three-tier hot springs fountain. Performances such as cultural dances, traditional games, handicraft-making and traditional activities such as rice planting and milling rice can be seen at scheduled times and tourists will find these shows very interesting.
