Kuala Kedah is a very busy
and important fishing village located about fifteen
kilometers on the western area of Alor Setar. Tourists
come here for its large jetty with ferries services to take them
across to the spectacular Pulau Langkawi. The main
attraction seen in this town is the Kota Kuala Kedah
which was a fort built in 1770 to protect this port from
the invading Thai army.
Besides the ruins of the
fort, some really good local dishes can be obtained here
and since seafood are freshly obtained from the sea, it
is no coincidence that some of the best seafood
restaurants are found here. Besides the usual crab, fish
and prawns dishes, another trademark dish here is the 'laksa
Kuala Kedah' which is made of thick rice vermicelli and
spicy fish gravy which will thrilled those who are into
spicy food.
