MAKAM MAHSURI - LANGKAWI

MAHSURI MAUSOLEUM

KEDAH, NORTH OF MALAYSIA

As one of the most popular places in Langkawi and located about 12 kilometers away from Kuah, the Mahsuri Mausoleum (Makam Mahsuri) marks the spot where Mahsuri was buried. According to the legend when Mahsuri lay dying after being executed over a false accusation of adultery, she laid a curse on the island that it would not prosper for seven generations. Whatever the reason, economic or legend, Langkawi's meteoric success only came around recently.

Souvenirs shops and a village house displaying ancient artifact is located in the compound of the mausoleum and this place is usually full of visitors during the weekends. Among the many legends found in this region, Mahsuri is the most famous legendary figure and it was believed that white blood flowed from her veins showing her innocence.
