Kota Bharu is the capital city of Kelantan and also a bustling town with traditional Malay culture. Most day tours usually begin from this town whereby it also acts as the stopping place for all visitors who visits Kelantan. Besides being the termination point of the east coast highway, this cultural town has also become the gateway to Thailand. It is roughly 170 kilometers from Kuala Terengganu, 370 kilometers from Kuantan and 480 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia Airlines links Kota Bharu to other major towns in the peninsula and allows tourist to fly into Kelantan.

 

For those who wants to travel into the outlying districts, there are express buses and taxis available. Tourists should not be missed the opportunity of trying out the trishaws, a traditional and cheap mode of transportation while they are in Kota Bharu. Tourists will surely enjoy the various attractions found here and will use this place as a base to explore the nearby countryside whereby tourists can see the true Malay spirit found in the villages here. Kota Bahru has one of the best night market in the region.
