Regarded
as one of visited tourist attractions in
Malaysia is the National Monument in Kuala
Lumpur. Like any countries
in the world, Malaysia too had its shares of
having to struggle for independence and found
here is a monument honoring those who gave up
their lives so that future generations of
Malaysian can live in a peaceful environment.
Designed
by the famous sculptor, Felix de Weldon, this 15.54 meters
high bronze monument was constructed in 1966 to honor
the country's fallen heroes during the Communist
insurgency. Felix de Weldon has also designed the famous
Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington.
It is one of the
largest freestanding sculptures in the world and
it is cast in bronze depicting seven soldiers from the Malaysian Armed
Forces holding up the national flag with pride
whereby the soldiers represents the seven qualities of leadership. Surrounding this
independence monument is a moat filled with
water lilies and fountains. Photo: National Monument
