The famous National Monument in Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaRegarded as one of visited tourist attractions in Malaysia is the National Monument in Kuala Lumpur. Like any countries in the world, Malaysia too had its shares of having to struggle for independence and found here is a monument honoring those who gave up their lives so that future generations of Malaysian can live in a peaceful environment.

 

Designed by the famous sculptor, Felix de Weldon, this 15.54 meters high bronze monument was constructed in 1966 to honor the country's fallen heroes during the Communist insurgency. Felix de Weldon has also designed the famous Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington.

 

It is one of the largest freestanding sculptures in the world and it is cast in bronze depicting seven soldiers from the Malaysian Armed Forces holding up the national flag with pride whereby the soldiers represents the seven qualities of leadership. Surrounding this independence monument is a moat filled with water lilies and fountains.                                                                                  Photo: National Monument
