Petaling Street,
also known as the famous Chinatown area in Kuala
Lumpur, is endowed with a
distinct character of its own whereby this
interesting area is always crowded and beautiful
Chinese signs are a common sight here. This colorful
street of Chinese shops, Chinese restaurants and hawker stalls
bustles with vitality for twenty hours a day. Walk, linger or
browse at the sights and sounds that capture
one's imagination and it is definitely a
shopping
paradise for both the locals and tourists
whereby this area becomes a bazaar or night
market (pasar
malam) during night time whereby the pre-war
shops and open-air stalls are full with shoppers
looking for bargains on clothes, shoes, jewelry
to anything they desire.
Flanking both sides of this street
are shops selling anything from textiles to Chinese
herbal medicines and batik to local handicrafts. This
place has some of the best historic Chinese
shophouses ever seen in Malaysia. This famous
tourist attraction is bounded by Jalan Cheng
Lock, Jalan Hang Kasturi and Jalan Sultan. There are also a number of restaurants
serving authentic regional Chinese cuisine and it is a
good place to try out as many different types of
local dishes as possible. If you just want to 'eat
and shop', then do not miss Petaling Street of
Kuala Lumpur.
