Recognized as one of
Malaysia's most famous landmark, the Kuala Lumpur Railway
Station
was built in
1910, whereby it is yet another heritage building that
reflects the influence of Moorish architecture. The
graceful archways, minarets, domes and Gothic pillars
are designed by architect A.B. Hubbock and has now
become one of the most photographed structures in Malaysia. The
best picture of this grand building can be captured by
standing in front of the Malayan Railway Administration
Building which is located opposite this railway station.
It was
extensively renovated in 1988 to provide air-conditioned
comfort and modern facilities for rail passengers and
also linked it to the General Post Office in Dayabumi. From
this train station, passengers can travel to most major cities and
towns on Peninsular Malaysia's west coast and to
Photo: Railway Station Tumpat on the east coast. There are also train services
to Singapore and Thailand and it is packed with
travelers during the festive season. One of the main
attraction here is the former Station Hotel, which is
now known as the Heritage Station Hotel which can be
seen within the station building.
