HANG LI POH'S WELL - MALACCA (MELAKA)

HANG LI POH'S WELL

SOUTH OF MALAYSIA

One of the main places of interest while touring Melaka is the 15th century Hang Li Poh's Well which is located next to the Sam Po Kong Temple. This well was specially built for Hang Li Poh by her followers for her personal use and subsequently became the main source of water for a major part of this town. During those warring days, this well was always the main target for opposition forces who will try to poison it or control it for their own use. Finally the Dutch managed to built fortifications to surround the well. One unique aspect of Hang Li Poh's Well is that it is known never to dried up. Presently, this attraction has become a wishing well whereby anyone who throws a coin into the well is believed to want to return to Melaka in the future.
